Day 9 :: black and white part cinq - casual friday

I never thought I'd be happier to see the end of the week!  Who knew that following a set routine would be so exhausting?  At the very beginning of this adventure, I thought my life would be made simpler, and perhaps with a different theme, this would be so.

Unfortunately, Black and White ended being my not-so-fave thing.  I guess I've become accustomed to color and pattern - a recent but potent fashion paradigm shift, thanks to my blogger ladies - and so I ended up feeling thoroughly...well, bored.

I didn't even have the energy to find an inspiration photo for this look.  I just grabbed the most comfy-looking black and white things I owned and crossed my fingers.  The top is an old one from New York and Co. back when their sizes still made sense. (Recently, they've taken vanity sizing to an extreme because, really? In what universe am I a size 0?)  I love it because I have the freedom to ingest an entire double double meal complete with animal-style fries and a vanilla shake and still feel svelte.  Must be that banded waist coupled with batwing sleeves.  My friends, I think I've found my holiday eating silhouette!

The faux leather moto jacket is my homage to Sons of Anarchy, my newest obsession.
Scroll to the end for a more detailed photo of it.

As they say, the devil is in the details. Because of the exaggerated bootcut - almost flare - of the jeans, I had some trouble with shoes.  Normally, I wear wedges with these jeans but none of the ones I have were working with the top and the minimalist look that was emerging from this hastily thrown together ensemble.  Here are the initial choices:

But of course I obviously settled with these Franco Sarto silver snakeskin pumps.  I think they're in keeping with the clean, classy flavor and they play nicely with my accessories.  Plus, they're surprisingly comfortable. (I say "surprising" because, as is the case with most of the items in my closet, this pair of pumps hasn't seen much action since I bought them in gods I can't remember, that's how old they are.)

Speaking of accessories: there's a story behind this necklace.

[Scroll down to the next paragraph to skip the random, if brief, story and to see the pics.]

[begin story] I used to be an obsessive Tobi shopper and their models always seemed to wear this necklace but when it finally dawned on me to buy it, they'd sold out.  I searched high and low for something similar on etsy, eBay and my usual suspects of retailers.  At one point, I shelled out $30 for the Express version but KS#1 and #2 convinced me that it just wasn't worth it so I returned it.  Months passed, during which time I cancelled my email subscription to Tobi because they were just getting too much of my paycheck.  On a whim last month, though, I thought I needed a sheer chiffon polka dot top, and since Tobi is known for their sheer tops, I visited the site and voila!  The necklace for $12.  My precious... [end story]

The earrings are a glass green and deviate from the B&W theme but they're the only delicate ones I own.
